I’m one of those idiots who loves the horror genre. I don’t know why, but I’m hooked. I love the excitement of horror games, movies, urban legends, creepypasta, and all the other forms scary stories come in. My first introduction to horror movies came in my pre-teens, and I saw so many in such a quick succession that it’s impossible for me to say which came first. Darkness Falls, The Sixth Sense, Final Destination, Ghost Ship, They, 28 Days Later, Rose Red, Feardotcom (remember that one?), The Exorcist, and goddess knows how many more. The one I have a deep love for though is The Ring, because it’s so much more than a scary movie. The Ring gets a lot of flak, mostly for being an American remake, but it remains one of the most beautiful and melancholy films I’ve ever seen. It taught me to expect more from horror movies than just mindless violence and gore. To me, atmosphere is what really makes a horror movie.
Of course I love Halloween as well. It’s my favorite holiday, and I love to have horror movie marathons that night. Here’s a group of movies that for different reasons I feel are good movies to spend Halloween with.
